Microscape by Carla Stehr

Microscape by Carla Stehr

Artist Statement: I make fiber art to express my passion for marine life and tiny patterns found in nature. This piece is inspired by a scanning electron microscope image I photographed during my career as a Marine Biologist, showing the texture on the surface of a tiny shrimp-like animal called an amphipod.

Materials & Techniques: White cotton fabric and wool batting were free motion quilted and embroidered with French knots using white cotton thread. Fabric paint, markers and water soluble colored pencils were applied after stitching.

Dimensions: 32 x 27

Photographer: Carla Stehr
