What I Want To Remember by Helen Remick

What I Want To Remember by Helen Remick

Artist Statement: Like many a favorite photograph, this quilt has been creased and torn. The damage cannot not lessen the memories evoked by the images. I created this quilt as my dear mother in law slipped further into dementia. She and I often repeated two lists that were most important to her --- the names of family members, and the places she had lived. As I worked I realized that I had created my own list. The photographs are of the people I love and the places I have been. Verda Pauline Myers Remick has a place of honor in the upper left block.

Materials & Techniques: 35mm film negatives, manipulated images printed on overhead projector sheets, felt, tulle, yarn, thread. Hand pieced and hand quilted. Based on traditional Pineapple block.

Dimensions: 62 x 62

Photographer: Mark Frey
