Cathy Erickson - Carpenters Quilt

Artist Statement: This quilt is second in a series of quilts and poetry inspired by the stories of people who were sent to the Japanese American internment camps during World War II. This quilt was inspired by the many photos of men standing among piles of scrap lumber while making furniture for their families to use at the camps. Working with Margaret Chula has enabled me to feel that I was not limited to the traditional materials of construction for quilts.

Dimensions: 32" wide x 14" high x 2" deep

Materials and Techniques: rabbet plane, wood, sand-paper, nails, woodworking magazine paper, and fabric
