Bonny Brewer and Janet Kurjan - Plum Tango

Bonny Brewer and Janet Kurjan - Plum Tango

Artist Statement: The two parts of this diptych are the work of two artists, with the regular versus irregular styles reflecting their personality differences. In addition to a long-time love of fabrics, they share a love for interesting food. The beautiful fruits and vegetables at a farmers' market provide inspiration for this piece. One can imagine eggplant, limes, green chilies, a bit of mango chutney, as well as green and purple plums.

Dimensions: 94" wide x 46" high

Materials and Techniques: Fabrics hand dyed by the artists with the help of their poet, Jill McGrath. Each piece of hand-dyed fabric was split into two to generate nearly identical starting points for the construction of each portion of the diptych. Janet constructed her half of the piece (right), then Bonny used it as a guide to create the complementary half (left), and Janet modified her part in response. Both are machine pieced and quilted.
