Girls in the Boat by Colleen Wootton
Artist Statement: In the summer of 2016 I watched a lot of the Reo Olympics on television, and around that time I was reading a wonderful book – Boys in the Boat about nine Americans and their epic quest for gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by author Daniel James Brown. With rowing on my mind, when I saw these young women rowing on Lake Washington I thought “maybe I can turn this into a quilt.”
Materials & Techniques: This is a custom designed, machine quilted, whole cloth quilt. The top is made of custom digitally printed organic cotton sateen, with Hobbs heirloom premium 80/20 cotton blend sandwiched in the middle, and organic cotton on the back. Mettler silk-finish 100% cotton thread is used throughout.
Dimensions: 25 x 30 x 1
