Bonnie Bucknam , CQA - Bridge Controversy

Artist Statement: The controversy over replacing the I5 Bridge between Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington has been going on since at least 2005.  An agreement between the two states and the federal government on the design, placement, and purpose of a new bridge is elusive.  In the meantime, over 130,000 cars pass over the bridge every day.  The bridge, while not considered structurally deficient, has been deemed “fracture critical.”

Materials & Techniques: Cotton fabrics hand dyed by the artist, machine pieced, machine quilted

Dimensions: 65" x 49"

Photographer: Mark Frey
