Carla Stehr - Microscape

Artist Statement: Many organisms have beautiful patterns that are hidden from our eyes without the aid of a microscope. This piece is inspired by a scanning electron microscope image of the texture on the surface of a tiny shrimp-like animal called an amphipod.

Materials & Techniques: White cotton fabric and wool batting was free motion quilted and embroidered with French knots with white cotton thread. Several layers of fabric paint, markers and water soluble colored pencils were applied after stitching.

Dimensions: 27"W x 32"H

Photographer: Carla Stehr
