Artist Statement: Beauty is a main focus of my fabric art, and of my attention in general. So often, I am struck by fleeting moments of exquisite beauty, and in my art I seek to reconnect with those moments, and to interpret them for the viewer. Attention to real beauty seems to be declining; there is so much ugliness in our world that it is increasingly difficult to focus our hearts, minds, and eyes upon beauty. In this piece, the subject blocks out all else, and, with the American Beauty rose held between the lips, represents the struggle to serenely maintain focus on that which is beautiful in our world.
