Artist Statement: As usual this piece started with a few shapes in colours that interested me. I built a few elements and put them on my design wall where they stayed for over a year, being rearranged once in a while. After my SAQA mentor suggested I listen to the Art Life Plan podcast, I was inspired to 'curate' those elements. After I removed a couple that did not 'go' with the rest, my creativity took off and I used scraps in a contiguous colour palette, using a purplish grey as my neutral to provide some areas to rest the eyes from the intense saturated colours.

Materials & Techniques: Batik scraps, cotton and polyester sewing and embroidery thread, hand embroidery thread.
