Artist Statement: Anything we do with purpose is ritual. We use them to mark endings and beginnings. The graduation exercise. A wedding. Times when we need help or community for new turns in our lives. But anything we do with mindfulness is ritual. We can use ritual for even the small questions. Using it to speak to those larger forces within us and without us. Through ritual we let those forces know that we are listening, waking them up to try and help us again. Through ritual we can quiet the noise, hear our own still, small, voice that somehow tells us the relative rightness or wrongness of an act that we might want to pursue. The rightness of it for us, individually.

I write. I sew. I paint. I meditate. And like some others, I quiet myself by looking into water...or crystal. These are the times that those larger forces can reach me in spite of the din of the world. I'm lucky. I have so many avenues. I just have to remember their importance and fit them into my busy schedule.

Dimensions: 24" wide x 20" high
