Ruth Vincent - How are your clothes made?

Artist Statement: Traditionally in Papua New Guinea women make cloth from tree bark painted with mud, using materials around them to adorn themselves and represent their personalized cultural mythology.  Our clothing materials come from unknown sources, often petro-chemicals as the artist has used here to replicate barkcloth.

Materials & Techniques: Spun polyester, transfer dyes, acrylic paint sticks, felt pen, hand-dyed cotton, shells, seed pods, wooden beads; dyeing, stencilling, painting, quilting.
