Artist Statement: Cells on the surface of fish skin are beautiful when highly magnified with a microscope. This is inspired by a scanning electron microscope image I photographed during my career as a Fisheries Biologist. Intense stitching, paint applied after stitching and painted Lutradur were used to represent the microscopic textures.

Materials & Techniques: Hand-dyed fabric was heavily quilted. Several layers of paint were added after quilting.
