Migrations -  Path to Safety by Susan Smith

Artist Statement: Migrations, pioneers crossing prairies and canyons fording rivers in covered wagons to find land and freedom from oppression. The building of The Fred G. Redmon Bridge, also known as the Selah Creek Bridge, is a twin arch bridge which is a testament to their strength and fortitude making it easy for everyday people to drive across the bridges in the wake of our ancestors and search for freedom.

Materials & Techniques: Photo taken through the chain link fencing blocking the canyon at the roadside rest. Altered with iPad apps and Colors edited with Photoshop Elements Printed at Spoonflower on a fat quarter petal soft cotton. . Free-motion machine quilted; silver cord couched on.
