Invisible Pathways 2 by Stephanie Ostmann![]() Artist Statement: Beneath the forest floor mycelia from fungus and the smallest filaments of tree roots migrate toward each other. They are seeking a vital exchange: water and nutrients from the soil for sugars from sun-soaked leaves. Hidden from our eyes they find each other and allow life to flourish. I imagine this as stitches moving across a fabric ground. Materials & Techniques: Cotton, eco-dyed by the artist from a Cornelian cherry tree, commercial cotton, cotton batting, free motion quilted, hand embellished with sashiko and metallic threads, bound, mounted on fabric, framed without glass. Dimensions: 16 x 16 x 0 Photographer: Fred Higgins, Stephanie Ostmann |
