Roncador Swirls by Carla Stehr

Roncador Swirls by Carla Stehr

Artist Statement: My techniques for making art quilts are constantly migrating, each often inspires another. Roncador Swirls is inspired by the colors and patterns of tannic water foaming and swirling at the bottom of a waterfall on the Roncador River. I often use thickened dye in my pieces, and here I have added, for the first time (for me) soy wax resist to indicate the swirls.

Materials & Techniques: Cotton fabric, thickened dye, soy wax resist. Whole cloth, free motion machine quilted, hand stab stitch quilting.

Dimensions: 19 x 35 x 1

Photographer: Carla Stehr
