Random Rhythm by Janet DarcherArtist Statement: Rhythm can be random, existing in nature (like a tree line or falling snow), and art as a type of "random rhythm" where elements repeat with no specific, regular intervals, creating a sense of natural order or calculated complexity rather than true chaos. In this piece, the rhythm is achieved with improv piecing and grid quilting. Materials & Techniques: Commercial and cotton fabrics that were printed using a variety of surface design techniques. Improv segments were machine-stitched. Some segments were slashed and sewn back together using skinny lines. It is quilted using a ¼-inch grid. The piece is an original design. Dimensions: 44 x 32 x 0 Photographer: Janet Darcher |
