Artist Statement: This is my first completely self-designed quilt, created as a final project for Lorraine Torrence's "Design Essentials" class in 2003. I made it as a gift for a dear friend's birthday as her age reached a number associated with a typical freeway speed limit. After continuing to study and (I hope) grow both artistically and technically under the guidance of Lorraine and other teachers, I still like this piece for its vibrant array of gradient colors and its variations on a simple geometric figure.
Materials & Techniques: Commercial cotton prints, machine pieced and machine quilted.
Dimensions: 42"W x 44"H
Photographer: myself
