Artist Statement: A microscope can reveal an incredible world of natural beauty. This piece is inspired by a microscopic image of textures on the surface of an amphipod. Amphipods are tiny shrimp like animals that live in water, mud or moist soil; sand hoppers jumping on beaches are a type of amphipod.

Materials & Techniques: White cotton fabric and wool batting was free motion quilted and embroidered with French knots with white cotton thread. Several layers of fabric paint, markers and water soluble colored pencils were applied after stitching.

Dimensions: 27"W x 32"H
