Artist Statement: This piece is dedicated to the courageous, homeless women of Seattle and everywhere. They get up each morning facing challenges that are incomprehensible to most of us. They need the basics of food, a warm, dry place to stay, shower - not just for themselves but for their children too. The "fabrics" used in this piece are bits from their daily lives - plastic bags, corrugated cardboard, used tarp, newspaper. - cast-offs of society as are they. It uses the conventional squares and triangles of the world of the housed, my world. Is there beauty in this piece? I don't know. How can you fit together the homeless world of rejection and uncertainty with my world of comfort and security?
