Artist Statement: Diatoms are tiny single-celled plants that have intricate, multi-layered patterns that can only be seen with a microscope.  This piece represents just one small area on the surface of a diatom, and is meant to show that an amazing beauty exists on even the tiniest organisms.

Materials & Techniques: Hand dyed and commercial cotton fabrics, polyester felt, batting. Machine quilted and applique.
