Artist Statement: East of Madagascar is the Island of Mauritius, home and final resting place of the Dodo bird, extinct since 1681, wiped out by mankind.

Materials & Techniques: Commercial and hand dyed cotton fabrics used for the tiles and fused onto 50/50 silk/cotton which forms the grout. Inkjet photo transfer of dodo bird images onto commercial fabrics. Reverse applique to capture shadows.
