Artist Statement:
I work in layers using hand-dyed and commercial fabrics and paper. Overdying, discharge, and stamping add depth. I assemble layers with collage, appliqué, embroidery, embellishment and quilting techniques.
Translucent and frayed layers convey half-seen images that float or sink into the background; shifting levels evoke an interplay of what's above and below the surface.
This piece is the second of 11 in my "Itchy Feet" series. The images are based on a dream and became an exploration of movement within feet and other "itchy" motifs as well as the patterns feet make moving over a surface.
Artist Bio:
I was making string art in the 60's when I was supposed to be studying psychology; my passion for contemporary fiberart has never waned. In 1996, I focused my scattered training with a 2 1/2 year City and Guilds of London design course. Now, when not at my day job of psychotherapist, I make contemporary fiberart depicting our interlaced realities of dreams, relationships, and nature. I work in layers using repeated images to reflect how the same issues permeate our lives, in daily details and at major crossroads.
