Artist Statement: I am interested in exploring the relationships of lines and shapes while direct piecing quilts and combining colors in an exciting manner. I especially like the curved line and edge. I dye my own cotton fabrics to achieve the results I want; it is a continuous experiment and surprise. I machine piece and machine quilt my own work. Verdant Counterpoint is one of a series. The design developed by itself after I made several exaggerated blocks and allowed the design to grow.
Materials & Techniques: Most of the cotton fabrics are my own hand dyes, the quilt is machine pieced and machine quilted.
Dimensions: 54" wide x 70" high
Acknowledgement: Selected for Quilt National 2003
Artist Bio: I graduated from Whitman College and received a MS Degree From Simmons College. I studied no art. After raising a family, co-owning a business for 18 years, and retiring to the Olympic Peninsula, I was finally able to take some art classes. Eventually I found out about Quilting By The Sound and the Coupeville Art Center, and I’ve had a wonderful time ever since completely absorbed in Art Quilts.
