Artist Statement: Simone and Mike stopped in for a few days that summer. They were on a trip celebrating 25-years of marriage. I asked Simone what she would like to do and she said, "I just want to walk in the woods and stand in the coolness under a tree." And so we did. Four months later, Simone was forever gone. She left me these hand dyed fabrics and I have finally been able to use them to try to capture the essence of Simone in the woods, under a tree, in the coolness.

Materials & Techniques: Hand dyed fabrics (by Simone), canvas, machine quilted with rayon threads.
