Artist Statement: As a child my father always encouraged my interest in science and outer space and answered even the goofiest questions with a straight face. One evening when I was 6 or so we were sitting on the edge of my bed with the lights out, looking out the window at the full moon. I turned to him and said, "Daddy, when you fly in an airplane, do you go over the moon or under the moon?" He said, "Well, I'll tell you this much: there's a back to the moon, but no one has ever seen it!"

Materials & Techniques: Hand-dyed (by the artist) cotton fabric. Machine pieced using artist-developed faced-circle technique, and machine quilted.
