Image of quilt titled "Roaring Tiger" by Bonny Brewer

Artist Statement: From the poem by William Blake . . .

Tiger, tiger, burning bright,
In the forest of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

This quilt is one mortal's attempt at framing fearful symmetry. While it is cartoonish in execution, the extreme close-up of the tongue, uvula and pharynx--not to mention those teeth!--make the viewer want to take a step back for comfort, if not for safety.

Chinese Chrysanthemum Series: Fu Xiao - Tiger Roaring

Materials & Techniques: Commercial cotton batiks, cottons; Phil Jones hand-dyed cotton. Machine piecing, appliqué and quilting.
