Artist Statement: This diptych is the work of two artists - one who prefers to do very regular work and the other, irregular work. While their styles differ, the pieces share a reference to the log cabin pattern of quilting. The inspiration for this piece came from a love of Indian food and its aromatic spices. It evokes the fragrances and sensations of ginger, turmeric, cumin, cilantro and chili peppers. The collaborations between the two fiberartists and their poet always included a great meal.

Dimensions: 92" wide x 46" high

Materials and Techniques: Fabrics hand dyed by the artists with the help of their poet, Jill McGrath. Each piece of hand-dyed fabric was split into two to generate nearly identical starting points for the construction of each portion of the diptych. Bonny completed her piece (right), then Janet created her half of the diptych (left) using her irregular version of the log cabin quilt block, and finally Bonny modified her half in response. Both are machine pieced and quilted.
